Fiber Optic Seafloor Strainmeter (FOSS)FOSSFOSS is an anancronym for Fiber Optic Seafloor Strainmeter. FOSS is part of a larger project focusing on shelf stability off the Santa Barbara Coast, particularly seafloor geodesy. The goal of FOSS is to determine strain rates, or displacement of sediments on the shelf, across several "cracks" in the sediment that be a precursor to shelf failure.People
